Falasarna

Ancient city Falasarna is located 59km south from Chania city. There are two long beaches and the ancient harbour of Polyrrhenia in the area. Falasarna is named after a myth about a nymph called Falasarna. Falasarna and Polyrrhenia used to be two important ancient cities. The first was stronger than the second and had minted coins that depicted a woman and the letters ΦΑ.

Today, visitors can see the ruins of the city walls, the citadel walls, houses, tombs and a stone throne that is said to have been dedicated to Poseidon, the god of the sea. The ancient harbour is still being excavated.
